SelfHarm
Self-harm, also known as self-injury or non-suicidal self-injury, involves deliberately harming one’s own body as a way of coping with emotional distress. Self-harm is often a symptom of underlying emotional or psychological issues such as trauma, depression, or borderline personality disorder. Self-harm therapy can help individuals understand and address the underlying causes of self-harm while developing healthier coping strategies.
At Reach Life, we will do a thorough risk assessment, use safety planning and harm minimisation strategies to work with the person who is self-harming, in a non judgemental way. We also want to equip them with alternative coping strategies so that they do need to use self-harm as a coping strategy. Often, this may include teaching some DBT skills including distress tolerance.
