Gender Identity andSexuality

Reach Life is a LGBTIQ friendly space.

Gender Identity

Gender identity refers to a person’s internal sense of their own gender, which may or may not align with the sex assigned to them at birth. Transgender and non-binary individuals may experience distress or dysphoria related to incongruence between their gender identity and physical appearance. Gender-affirming therapy and support can help individuals explore their gender identity, access medical transition options if desired, and navigate social and legal challenges related to gender expression. Studies show that people who identify as gender diverse are at increased risk of mental illness and suicide.

At Reach Life, we are deeply committed to supporting individuals of all genders in living authentically and safely. Our therapy approach encompasses a range of services including counselling, family therapy, medical assessment and support, advocacy, and self-esteem work. We strive to provide comprehensive support tailored to each client’s unique journey around their gender identity.

Some of our clinicians that wave the banner for this area include Naomi Weir, Kate Wentzel, Rachel D’Arcy, and Catherine Yates. We have supported clients who are transitioning or have transitioned to address different issues, such as trauma, identity and family work, through individual and family therapy. At Reach Life, we expect all team members to practice with the upmost care and respect for people of all genders and sexual orientations, without bringing personal bias or judgement into the clinic.

Sexuality

Sexuality encompasses a person’s sexual orientation, desires, behaviours, and attitudes towards sex and relationships. Sexuality is influenced by biological, psychological, cultural, and social factors. Individuals may face challenges related to sexual identity, coming out, sexual dysfunction, or navigating relationships. Therapy can provide a supportive space for exploring sexuality, addressing concerns, and enhancing sexual health and well-being.

At Reach Life, we use a combination of counselling and approaches to provide comprehensive support services. We are affirming and supportive of client choices around their sexuality, striving to create a non-judgmental and supportive space to support their journey.
